FIT's Future of Fashion Show

May 2012: Sponsored by Cotton, Inc. and Calvin Klein.
In the final semester at FIT students are asked to create two looks: One look of the designer's choice, and one look made entirely of cotton. Anonymous industry professionals then review the garments and choose looks that coordinate with the chosen theme of the show. The students, however, are not informed what the theme is to ensure a wide variety of designs to review.

The judges may choose both, one, or none of the submitted looks.

Womenswear, Lingerie, Eveningwear, Knitwear, and Childrenswear looks are all represented in the show. My cotton look was the only male look represented in the entire show.

Cotton Look Development

Once the looks are chosen, each look is assigned a model. The designer is then responsible for ensuring proper fit and styling for the look to go down the runway.

Kid Style Source
Created using a combination of flat pattern and draping techniques, this look is made entirely from woven and knit cotton fabrics.

This three piece look includes:
  • Adjustable-waist denim jeans with pinch pleated knees, custom sewn pocket detailing, and hand-drawn screen printed piecing within the pant yolk and inner knees.
  • A pieced and hand-distressed open faced jacket.
  • A hand screen printed and spot dyed tee shirt.
